Swathe of offshore redundancies
Royal Dutch Shell to lay off more than 300 from North Sea jobs.

Oil major, Royal Dutch Shell, plans to axe 330 jobs from its North Sea operations, reports the BBC. The company said that the majority of the positions would be from its office in Aberdeen and will be phased out over the next two years.
The statement follows job losses last September when it was announced that up to 9,000 jobs would go worldwide as the company was hit by the worldwide slump in oil demand. Shell insists that it will continue to invest in its North Sea operations and says it remains committed to working in the region.
About 1,000 jobs will be left in Aberdeen after the redundancies and many other companies in the industry are being forced to re-think their strategies as part of the transition away from fossil fuels. The pandemic has hastened the transition and some of the jobs being lost are linked to the decommissioning of the Brent Charlie platform.
