New Norwegian multi-role coastguard vessel floats out in Romania
Vard Tulcea floats out first of three new Jan Mayen-class ships for Norwegian Coastguard.
Romanian shipyard, Vard Tulcea, has floated out the lead unit of leash of new-class multi-role vessels for the Norwegian Coastguard.
After fit out at Vard’s Langsten facility in Norway, the Jan Mayen-class ship will have a length of 136.4 metres, a beam of 22 metres and a displacement of 9,800 tonnes. All of the new class will have ice-strengthened hulls.
In addition to general coastguard duties the ships will perform surveillance, oil spill recovery, and search and rescue operations. Delivery will be one vessel per year, starting in 2022.
